At the Emerald City Comicon , one corner of the Washington State Convention Center consistently attracted long lines and flash photography that rivaled the paparazzi. Alice painstakingly created each room of Hogwarts Castle in great detail out of , bricks, and ECCC attendees stood in line just to peek inside the windows. The entire school grounds took twelve months to build, an uncalculated cost from Alice's own pockets, more than forty boxes and pallets to get it to the convention center, and four people to set it up over three hours. When I asked her which part of the castle was the most difficult to build, more than one came to mind. It is easy to make walls wobble, but to make it so that the roof could follow the wobble and not be pinched is much more challenging. We had to build it in a way that was self-supporting, something the software did not tell us. My husband helped on this because I had so many to do and I was running out of time. After that, I covered them with thousands of cones — the big one alone has 3, sand green cones on it. And even though the Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom also makes the list for most challenging, it is also one of Alice's favorite parts of the castle.

Tell us what you think! Good podcast, it matches a lot of things I felt about the first Hobbit film—I saw it as a chance to enjoy in a visceral way the world of Midfle Earth without the imminent peril of Lord of the Rings. Minas Ithal was the mirror of Minas Tirith on the other side of the river that fell to Mordor and became Minas Morgal. In the movies Minas Morgsl shows up in kind of eerie green death-metal glow while Elijah Wood looks on in bug-eyed fascination.
