The mobile phone has become the favored communication hub for the majority of American teens. Cell-phone texting has become the preferred channel of basic communication between teens and their friends, and cell calling is a close second. Those phones have become indispensable tools in teen communication patterns. Among all teens, their frequency of use of texting has now overtaken the frequency of every other common form of interaction with their friends see chart below. Fully two-thirds of teen texters say they are more likely to use their cell phones to text their friends than talk to them to them by cell phone.
What are these teens texting about? Sexting is the term used to describe sending and receiving sexually explicit messages, or nude or seminude photographs or videos electronically primarily between cell phones, but can occur between any media-sharing device or technology — ie, e-mail or the Internet. Sexting has been a recognized occurrence for several years and is a global practice among teens and young adults.
Sexting is sending, receiving, or forwarding sexually explicit messages, photographs, or images, primarily between mobile phones, of oneself to others. It may also include the use of a computer or any digital device. The first published use of the term sexting was in a article in the Australian Sunday Telegraph Magazine. Sexting has become more common with the rise in camera phones and smartphones with Internet access, that can be used to send explicit photographs as well as messages. Young adults use the medium of the text message much more than any other new media to transmit messages of a sexual nature, and teenagers who have unlimited text messaging plans are more likely to receive sexually explicit texts. As a result of sexting being a relatively recent practice, ethics are still being established by both those who engage in it and those who create legislation based on this concept. Whether sexting is seen as a positive or negative experience typically rests on the basis of whether or not consent was given to share the images.
My kids are now 14, 12 and When they were younger it was so hard to be alone and take care of them. You guys sound like you have a great and committed relationship - a true jewel in this world. If you really like this girl, might want to show her this. I grew up in a very strict Mormon home and dated only Mormon men until I met my now husband. I can't take it. I decided to sort of play along because she was amazing and I didn't believe some of the things she was telling me she actually believed. I just don't want to jump to conclusions and am trying to prepare myself for a new normal. She can never hang out on Sundays because she apparently spends the entire day at church.
